James Marshall received his Masters Degree in Clinical
Psychology from Wheaton College and has been in practice
since 1987. He is a member of the Christian Association for
Psychological Studies and an Associate Member of the
American Psychological Association.
He established MasterCare Institute, his private practice in Petoskey,
in 1996. MasterCare is devoted to providing innovative
counseling and consultation for you, your family and your
organization, grounded in clinical competence
and founded on Christian faith. Jim is also a member of EMDRIA (The
International Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing
Association).
Previously, "Jim" served as the Michigan Head Start Handicap Services
Advocate and later was a member of the Division of Psychology in the
Department of Psychiatry, Burns Clinic Medical Center. He is an Allied Staff Member at
Northern Michigan Regional Hospital in Petoskey.
Jim has presented at national conferences for clinical and pastoral helping professionals on the
treatment of emotional disturbances and speaks frequently in the community to promote preservation of
marriage and familiesand the prevention of mental illness. He has taught more than 2,000 9-1-1
Emergency Telecommunicators on suicide prevention, and in management of work trauma.
Jim practices from a Christian perspective but treats individuals of all faiths.
He integrates cognitive, dynamic, and interpersonal therapies enhanced by
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, Dr. Colin Ross' Trauma Model,
Depth Oriented Brief Therapy in accord with our Philosophy of Helping.
